Making a difference in a virtual world
Inspired by the current Covid-19 crisis and the dire need to continue to make a positive difference in the community – even in a virtual world – ORT-Jet hosted a unique event on the evening of 4th August.
ORT Jet – a division of ORT SA – equips small businesses to thrive in the most difficult of times, through business masterclasses and one-on-one mentorship opportunities.
The aim of this initiative was to raise much needed funds to assist small businesses in need while supporting local artists, who are themselves small businesses.
It was a well-attended and beautifully run webinar that began with a talk by South African conceptual artist Kim Lieberman. Kim spoke about a series of artworks that she had created during lockdown 2020, drawing on the different themes that have been pertinent during this time.
The talk was followed by an auction, during which works by Kim and by other highly-regarded South African artists were auctioned off by a prestigious auction house. As one participant observed, “Artists document periods of time in history and this was a wonderful opportunity for people to own a piece of history”.
Showcasing the best in South African talent, the innovative ORT SA response to the fundraising crisis caused by Covid and the generosity of the South African community, this was a successful event that will be fondly remembered by all and which could be used as a template for future fundraising initiatives across the ORT network.
