Special Commendations

The panel decided to give special commendations to the following works:

  1. A poem "From that Fire" by Rebecca B. Mendrekar from ORT India who also submitted 2 collages.

  2. A poem "The Boy" (L'enfant) by D. Benarrouch from ORT Morocco.

  3. A poem "The Flame that Burns Within" (La Fiamme Che Dentro Brucia) by Jonathan Genah from ORT Milan, Italy.

  4. An essay by Dalia Katz from ORT Argentina "For...I Still See them Coming..."(¿Porque..."Yo todavía Los Veo Entrar"). The essay includes the following lines translated from Spanish:

    In memory of all the young people, murdered in the Holocaust, who with the strength of their eternal youth ask us to avoid a second murder, that of the memory.

  5. Reflections, "Not to Forget?" (¿No Olvidar?) by Catherine Buszkaniec from ORT Uruguay.

  6. A class project "I am Looking for My Brothers" prepared by the 11th grade students of ORT Hatzor Haglilit, Israel. The project includes poems, essays, historical notes and photographs which were created after the class visit to the concentration camps in Poland.

  7. A class project prepared by students from ORT Kiryat Tivon, Israel. The project includes poems, personal reflections, literary analysis and photographs which were created after a visit to the concentration camps in Poland.

  8. A collection of very interesting and moving poems dealing with various human aspects of the Holocaust by Nitza Malkosh from ORT Neve Sara Herzog, Bnei-Brak, Israel.

  9. "The Holocaust in Poetry and Painting" - An educational project prepared by the teacher Ziv Tene from ORT Ramat Yosef, Bat-Yam, Israel.

  10. A video "613.407 - In Memoriam" prepared by Pablo Intebi, a graduate of ORT Argentina, 1992. The panel held this video in high regard from both the artistic and philosophical aspects. It was not included in the competition since it was prepared by a graduate. Nevertheless, it deserves a warm commendation.

    The panel would like to thank all the participants for their important and meaningful contribution to this project, dedicated to the memory of those who perished in the Holocaust and as a tribute to the survivors.

    We believe that beyond the competition, it served a very important educational cause enhancing not only the knowledge of these terrible times but also a profound personal identification.
